Cranberry Season

It’s that time of year when cranberries make a huge splash onto the dining scene. But is it true that drinking cranberry juice is good for the kidneys? The National Kidney Foundation says, “…did you know that they [cranberries] are also good for your urinary tract and your kidneys? If you aren't already eating cranberries, consider adding them to your grocery list.”

We were still curious, so we looked a little deeper, and we found there are opinions galore about this topic. Interestingly, eating whole cranberries has other benefits that just drinking the juice doesn’t provide. Eating cranberries can help prevent the growth of ulcers and bacteria in your urinary tract and can help manage any current bacteria/ulcers you may already have. Our Nephrologist friend, Dr. Qasim Butt has a great video about the benefits of cranberries. But more than anything, it’s always best to check with your doctor and nutritionist to find what is best for you!
