Meet Kiku.

I’ve always remained positive and focused on moving forward.

“Hi! I’m Kiku. As the Executive Director of ReMend and Marketing Manager for Balboa Nephrology, I’ve had a unique perspective on kidney health for nearly 25 years. My personal journey began over 30 years ago with a diagnosis of Wegener’s Granulomatosis, now known as granulomatosis with polyangiitis. This condition, a type of vasculitis, led to high blood pressure and ultimately kidney failure.

At 30, I started dialysis, a challenging experience due to a lack of information and understanding of treatment options. Fortunately, a dedicated nurse helped me navigate this new reality and changed the course of my life! After four and a half years of dialysis, I received a life-saving kidney transplant 22 years ago. This milestone has allowed me to live a fulfilling life.

Throughout my journey, I’ve faced numerous medical challenges, but I’ve always remained positive and focused on moving forward. I’m proud to be part of ReMend and to share my experiences with others. It’s a full-circle moment to be working in the kidney community, particularly at Balboa Nephrology, where I’ve been a patient for nearly 25 years.”
