WHAT IS DONOR SHIELD

Last month, President Trump signed an executive order to support transplantation and as part of the detailed plan to help increase living organ donation the National Kidney Registry has announced that all NKR swaps will be provided Donor Shield protections including lost wage reimbursement.

The Donor Shield Program Centers offer advantages to donors whether they donate directly to their recipient or through an NKR exchange. Donors who donate at a Donor Shield Center, would receive the following: (Please refer to the National Kidney Registry for Donation Shield Program Center locations.)

1. Lost Wage Reimbursement for up to 4 weeks for donors who earn $62,000 / year or less

2. Travel, Lodging, & Mileage Reimbursement up to $2,000 for donors and their support person/travel companion

3. Life Insurance with a $500,000 principal sum

4. Disability Insurance for $1,500 / week maximum for up to 52 weeks

5. Legal Support

6. Coverage for Uncovered Donor Complication Costs
