Meet Rebecca.
I am grateful for my donor’s family for giving me the opportunity to become a wife and mother…
Hello I’m Rebecca. I was diagnosed with Nephritis, specifically FSGS when I was nineteen. I had a preemptive kidney transplant, donated by my mom when I twenty-one. My body rejected my kidney, and I went on peritoneal dialysis for four years.
My second transplant was a deceased donor, and we have been together for 27 uneventful years. I am grateful for my donor’s family for giving me the opportunity to become a wife and mother and a social worker in dialysis for fourteen years. As a renal social worker, I used my personal experiences to help my patients grow, learn about transplant and survive dialysis.
Currently I spend my time in advocacy as a PEERS mentor with the National Kidney Foundation, as a LifeGift Ambassador, as a member of TransplantLyfe and most recently I joined the ReMend family.
As an advocate for kidney patients, I chose to use my positive and negative experiences with dialysis and transplant to create a book to educate and inspire other patients going through similar situations. My book A Kidney or Two will be published soon.
